Jagdish Chandra Barma Basunia is a current Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Cooch Behar (SC) constituency in West Bengal. He is affiliated with the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) party. He was elected to the 18th Lok Sabha in 2024 and is serving his first term in Parliament. Prior to becoming an MP, Jagdish Chandra Barma Basunia served as a Member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from the Sitai constituency in Cooch Behar district. He has also held positions such as Pradhan and President of the Sitai Panchayat Samiti and joined AITC in 2011 after working with the All India Forward Bloc. Known for his focus on development, social work, and farmer welfare in West Bengal, he has been actively involved in grassroots initiatives and local governance. His educational background includes a BA from North Bengal University and a B.P.Ed. from Amaravati University. This leader is recognized for his dedication to regional development and social empowerment in his constituency and state.
