Kadannappalli Ramachandran is a veteran Indian politician currently serving as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the Kannur constituency in Kannur district, Kerala. He is a senior leader of the Congress (Secular) [CNG(S)] party and has a long-standing political career spanning over five decades. Ramachandran is the current Minister for Ports, Museums, Archaeology, and Archives in Kerala since December 2023, having previously held the ministerial portfolios of Devaswom, Printing and Stationery (2009-2011) and Ports, Museums, and Archaeology (2016-2021).
He began his political journey as a student leader with the Indian Student Union (I.S.U.) and Kerala Students Union (K.S.U.), rising to key leadership roles including President of K.S.U. Cannanore Taluk Committee and General Secretary of K.S.U. State Committee. Ramachandran was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kasaragod constituency at age 27 and served two terms in Parliament (1971-1980). He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly multiple times, representing Irikkur (1980-1982), Edakkad (2006-2011), and Kannur (since 2016). He has served as State President of Congress (Secular) since 1990.
