Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj of Kolhapur, also known as Shahu II, was born on January 7, 1948. He is the 12th descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the great-grandson of Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur. He is the son and heir to Maj. Gen. Shahaji Chhatrapati Maharaj of Kolhapur. Shahu II received his education at the prestigious Bishop Cotton School in Bangalore and graduated from Indore Christian College in 1967, majoring in History, Economics, and English Literature. He assumed the role of ceremonial Chhatrapati Maharaja of Kolhapur in 1962. Shahu II is the Indian National Congress candidate for the Kolhapur constituency in the 2024 Indian general election.
