Political Life:Affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tekam serves as the representative for the Dhauhani constituency in Sidhi district. He secured notable victories in the 2008, 2013, and 2018 elections, consistently demonstrating strong electoral support. Beyond his regional role, Tekam held the significant position of Chairman (Cabinet Minister Status) of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, Government of India, New Delhi, from 2004 to 2007.
Social Life:Tekam's commitment extends beyond politics, with active engagement in various social service initiatives. Focused on addressing the challenges faced by poor tribals, he has championed causes such as de-addiction, exploitation, drinking water, land and forest issues, and constitutional provisions for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes. Over the past decade, Tekam has played a pivotal role in the 'Swaprerna Shikchya Abhiyan,' providing primary education to tribal boys and girls. Additionally, he has organized seminars to raise awareness among tribals on social and economic matters, facilitated access to agricultural loans for impoverished tribals through Cooperative Banks, and conducted de-addiction programs and health camps in tribal areas.
