MSc Agriculture from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Jabalpur in the year 1978-79. After that, after getting a job in State Bank of India, he served in State Bank of India in other districts including Damoh. After this, he left the bank job and joined active politics and was also made the Chairman of the District Cooperative Central Bank.
Lakhan Patel is current MLA from Patharia []. He belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party [ BJP ].

in the year 2013he got a chance to contest elections for the first time as a BJP candidate from Patharia Assembly and he won. But he had to face defeat in the 2018 elections. But due to his activism and his political hold, BJP once again fielded him with confidence in the 2023 elections and he won. Lakhan Patel, representing the Kurmi community, is very practical and active in the field. The result of this is that he has been made Minister of State with independent charge in Dr. Mohan Yadav's cabinet.
