Anil Deshmukh represented Katol, Nagpur district, first on behalf of the Congress party, and then the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Anil Deshmukh, in his initial years served as Chairman of Nagpur zilla Parishad of his political career. He first got elected to Maharashtra state assembly (MLA) in year 1995 from Katol and held it until 2014, when he lost the seat to his nephew, Ashish Ranjeet Deshmukh. He won as an Independent Candidate from (Katol) constituency Dist - Nagpur and served as (Minister of state) in the Manohar Joshi], Gopinath Munde led BJP - Shiv Sena government in 1995. Also, served as (Minister of State) for School Education, Higher & Technical Education, Cultural Affairs, Maharashtra State (1995 to 1999). And Minister of State for School Education, Information and Public Relations, Sports & Youth Welfare, Maharashtra State (1999 to 2001).
He later joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and served as a Cabinet Minister there on. Cabinet Minister for State Excise, Food & Drugs, Maharashtra State,(2001 to March 2004), Cabinet Minister for Public Works (Public Undertakings), Maharashtra State (2004 to 2008). Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Maharashtra State from 2009.
Anil Deshmukh is current MLA from Katol [Katol]. He belongs to Nationalist Congress Party [ NCP ].
