Maharashtra state is formed in 1960. In Maharashtra 288 MLA’s were elected for a period of 5 years. Maharashtra has a two-tier legislature i.e. it consists of two houses: Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) and Vidhan Parishad (legislative council) same as parliamentary system. Government is formed by the party, who is having majority either individually or in alliance. The leader of majority in assembly becomes the Chief Minister and selects the cabinet members.
Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election 2024 was held on 20 Nov 2024. The voters for the election was 66.05%, the highest since 1995. The ruling MahaYuti won a sweep victory winning 235 [BJP:132, Shivsena: 57, NCP: 41]. none of the parties in the Maha Vikas Aghadi had necessary seats to get the position of leader of opposition.Opposition Leader
